How Quickly Does Kybella Work?

Many people worry about the presence of submental fat, also referred to as a “double chin.” Here at Still Waters Day & Medical Spa in Pensacola, FL, we specialize in different cosmetic procedures to help our clients get one step closer to their beauty goals. One of the treatments we provide is Kybella Pensacola, an injection that works to reduce fat under the chin and improve facial contours.

How Quickly Does Kybella Pensacola Work?

Kybella Pensacola is an injectable pharmaceutical solution that has been FDA-approved for the treatment of excess fat located below the chin. The drug contains a synthetically produced form of deoxycholic acid, a molecule that is normally present in our bodies. When injected into the area beneath the chin, Kybella Pensacola works to break down and destroy cells that store and accumulate fatty deposits. This leads to a notable reduction in the amount of fullness experienced in this region.

Generally, patients can expect to see noticeable results within four to six weeks following treatment. During this period, the active ingredients work by attracting and destroying fat cells found in the chin area. Once these fat cells have been destroyed by the acid, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. Patients are, therefore, able to enjoy lasting results with no maintenance treatments needed.

Consultation

Scheduling a consultation is a crucial first step toward achieving the desired results with this treatment. During this initial appointment, we will discuss your aesthetic goals, review your medical history, and evaluate the area that you want to treat. We will also review any prior treatments or procedures you may have received, as well as any health conditions that could influence your treatment. By gathering all of this information, we’re able to create a customized treatment plan for each patient.

During this meeting, we’ll also explain how the treatment works, any potential risks or side effects associated with the injections, and provide visual examples of what kind of results can be expected. It’s essential for patients to have realistic expectations before they move forward with any cosmetic care. If we decide that you are a good candidate for this nonsurgical cosmetic injection, we’ll advise you on how to prepare for your treatment.

Things To Avoid As You Prepare for Kybella Pensacola Treatment

Alcohol

Alcohol can cause dehydration and an increase in inflammation, both of which could potentially interfere with the body’s ability to process deoxycholic acid properly. Additionally, alcohol can thin the blood and may lead to excessive bleeding and bruising in the area around the injection site.

Caffeine

Caffeine can elevate one’s heart rate, as well as constrict blood vessels. This can limit circulation in the treated area and slow down the healing process. In addition, caffeine has been linked to increased anxiety in some people, which could make it more difficult for them to relax during their appointment.

Niacin Supplements

Niacin supplements can cause skin flushing and other adverse reactions that can interfere with treatment efficacy and satisfaction. In addition, niacin supplements have been linked to an increase in blood sugar levels that could lead to complications during treatment, such as dizziness or lightheadedness.

Foods With High Levels of Sodium

High-sodium foods can cause fluid retention outside of the cells, which can interfere with treatment results and lead to poor outcomes. Additionally, high-sodium foods have been associated with an increased risk of hypertension, which could put patients at greater risk for side effects during treatment.

Foods With High-Sugar Content

High-sugar foods should also be avoided due to their potential impacts on insulin levels and metabolism. High sugar intake is also linked to inflammation in the body, which could cause irritation and redness in the treated area. Additionally, avoid refined carbohydrates, as they also have been linked to an increase in inflammation in the body.

Spicy Foods

Lastly, spicy foods should be avoided 24-48 hours before treatment. Hot spices tend to stimulate blood flow within the body, which may lead to increased swelling and redness at the injection site.

Treatment

Before the injection process begins, the doctor will thoroughly cleanse the chin area and apply an anesthetic cream to ensure that you are comfortable during the treatment. After a short wait time for the cream to take effect, the doctor will carefully mark the exact sites of each intended injection. Each session typically lasts between 15 and 20 minutes, depending on the degree of correction desired.

During this time, we’ll take proper care and ensure that you remain as comfortable as possible. We may also use a cold compress or ice pack after injections to reduce any potential pain or discomfort following treatment.

Post-Treatment Instructions

Plan Ahead

After each session, it’s normal to expect some minor side effects, such as redness or tenderness in the chin area. However, these effects should dissipate shortly after treatment is completed. For best results, we recommend that you don’t have any special events coming up in the coming two weeks after receiving your injections.

Two weeks is enough time for any swelling to go down so that you can look your best without worrying about any imperfections. However, if you do have an event coming up in the next few days, light makeup can be applied to help cover up any areas that may still be tender.

Avoid Extreme Heat Temperatures

It’s critical to avoid extreme temperatures of heat for 24 hours post-treatment. Exposing the treated area to high temperatures can lead to swelling, bruising, and discomfort, so it’s best to steer clear of saunas, hot tubs, or steam rooms for the first day after your treatment.

Avoid Strenuous Exercises

High-intensity activities such as running, jogging, weight lifting, and aerobics should all be avoided for at least one day after treatment. These exercises can cause excessive sweating at the injection site, which can lead to side effects such as redness or itching.

Wear a Chin Strap

The chin strap serves as an external source of compression, which reduces swelling and bruising, decreases discomfort from tenderness, and minimizes the risk of infection. Wearing a chin strap can also prevent any excess fluid buildup by allowing lymphatic drainage to occur more efficiently. Furthermore, a chin strap can provide protection against any accidental movement or contact with the treated area during recovery.

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking plenty of water is essential for a successful recovery after treatment, as adequate hydration helps to flush toxins from the body. It also helps maintain healthy skin, which can help minimize the appearance of any swelling or bruising that can occur after treatment.

How Do You Know if Kybella Pensacola Is Working?

There are several ways to tell if your treatment is working. First, you should be able to notice a visible reduction in the area of fat below your chin over time. After a few weeks, you may also notice an improved definition in your jawline or neck contour as the fat begins to dissipate.

If you have any questions or concerns about the progress of your injections, it’s important to contact us right away so we can address them. We usually recommend follow-up appointments to monitor treatment progress and ensure its effectiveness. During these meetings, we may take photos of the progress for comparison purposes. We may also perform examinations of the area to gauge how much of the fat has been lost since your initial appointment.

When You Should Start Massaging Your Chin After Treatment?

We recommend waiting for at least five days before rubbing or massaging your chin after receiving injections. This allows the injection site to heal properly and reduces the risk of any adverse reactions. You should also avoid any skin rejuvenation treatments such as chemical peels or laser treatments for the next 14 days following injections.

Minimally invasive treatments such as micro needling with PRP can affect treatment progress by causing extra inflammation, irritation, and pain in the area where deoxycholic acid was injected.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Injections?

Generally, anyone over 18 years of age who has concerns due to their double chin may be an ideal candidate for these injections. However, potential candidates should also be in good health and not allergic to deoxycholic acid.
