KYBELLA®

According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 68% of people surveyed were concerned about submental fullness. At Still Waters Day & Medical Spa in Pensacola, FL, we strive to help each of our clients feel confident regardless of the cosmetic concerns they have. If you are concerned about the appearance of your neck and chin, we think you will be excited to learn more about KYBELLA®.

What Is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® at Still Waters Day & Medical Spa, also known as deoxycholic acid or cholanoic acid, is the only injectable fat removal treatment available. It was approved by the FDA for the safe, effective removal of unwanted fat on April 29, 2015. Since then, hundreds of thousands of doses have been administered.
The number of doses required to achieve desirable contours depends on the volume of excess fat present and the elasticity of the skin, but most people need two to four sessions.

How It Works

KYBELLA® works by injecting a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid beneath your chin to correct submental fullness, or the appearance of a double chin. It can also be used to eliminate bands of fat from the neck efficiently and effectively.
In your gut, deoxycholic acid absorbs dietary fat cells and flushes them out of your body as waste through the end of your lymphatic system. This medication works in a similar way, destroying the local fat cells so they can’t store fat.

Who Is This Right for?

KYBELLA® is appropriate for healthy individuals who feel dissatisfied with the appearance of their chin or neck. An initial evaluation is required to identify candidates, but most healthy individuals will be considered a good candidate for this treatment if they want to improve the contours of their chin and neck but do not have the time to take off from work to recover from an invasive procedure.

During your initial evaluation, we will review your medical history thoroughly to ensure that you are healthy enough to receive this injectable medication. For example, we need to know if you are currently taking any medications or supplements designed to prevent blood clotting or are fighting an active infection.

Who Is This Procedure Inappropriate for?

This procedure is not appropriate for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who plan to become pregnant in the next six months. Although most clients need only two to four sessions spaced a month apart, some clients need up to six treatments to improve the appearance of their chin and neck. Since the FDA has not tested this medication on women who are pregnant, we cannot recommend this treatment for such women.

The Bottom Line

If you suffer from submental fullness or bands of fat around your neck, KYBELLA® may be appropriate for you. It is the only injectable fat removal treatment and has been FDA-approved for over five years. It works by injecting synthetic secondary bile acid to destroy localized fat cells, so they can no longer store fat, and is appropriate for most healthy adults who wish to improve the appearance of their chin and neck. If you wish to experience kybella treatment, you can visit at Still Waters Day & Medical Spa.
